We spent the weekend out in the Gorge, taking a beautiful hike to Wahclella Falls. These are perhaps the most active falls we've seen in Oregon; well worth the short one mile hike.
That evening we spent at the Cooper Spur Resort, a cozy set of cottages on the NE side of Mt. Hood. We caught the opening day for Timberline and the first snow of the season!
Roman had quite a busy Halloween week. First Roman and I ran the Run Like Hell 5K race where he wore costume #1, a cow. Next up, we had a costume party at play group and Roman dressed up in costume #2, a giraffe. We ended Halloween week with Roman hosting his first party for all of buddies. Roman wore a Yoda costume complete with Yoda ears and light saber and in support of him, Peter and I dressed up as Luke Skywalker and Princes Leia... the Empire Strikes Back version, so no cinnamon bun hair for me.
Here are some photos of the week in costume with more posted on Picasa.
We spent this past Sunday at McMenamins Edgefiled to grab lunch, relax, and even play some golf. Who'd of thought you could drink a beer, carry a baby, and play a round of par-3 pitch and putt? Charles even got a hole in one, by our within-6-inches rule. Photos
We had a wonderful visit to Philadelphia and Boston at the start of September. Roman met his great-grandmothers Anne and Mimsey, who had a hard time letting him go after such a short visit! It was great to see so many family and friends, including some Peter had not seen since his childhood!
Last weekend the massive "Daylight" steam locomotive was out on display over at Union Station. Good friend Chris and his kids Max and Gabe joined for some research on the future train set that will take over the basement... If only we had a basement.
We've had the pleasure of plenty of family and friends visiting the last few weeks. Agnes and her kids at the start of the month, Arnold & Marella and their kids for Easter, new grandparents Susan and Bill and new uncle Jamie, and cousins Anita and Sarah all came to meet the new member of the family.
I should be getting some rest, but I need to stay on top of all the photos!
Tita (Aunt) Marella and Tito (Uncle) Arnold visited this weekend. It was great to have them here and meet the new member of the family. Click for more photos
Kerry, John, and daughter Riley are visiting from Seattle. It's amazing to see Riley already 3 years old! Add take-out Italian and Saint Cupcake for desert and you have some very happy diners.
I tried capturing a bunch of facial expressions, but alas, all Roman wanted to offer was "Dad, get the camera away..."
We are proud to announce the arrival of Roman Alejandrino Maxfield, born March 17th, 2009 at 10:45 am!
He is an impressive 8 lbs 11 oz (3940 grams), and 21.5 in long (55 cm). This first week has been quite the learning curve, but we're enjoying every moment.
We'll have tons of pictures and some movies soon; in the meantime, have a look at Andrea's Picasa album
I seriously thought by now I would have had the baby, but here I am at thirty nine and a half weeks and still pregnant. To say I'm ready is a gross understatement. I am so so ready to meet the little guy, hold him in my arms and finally see what this mommy business is all about. Everyone tells me to rest and enjoy the peace and quiet now, but I am starting to get a little, dare I say it, bored. All the major chores have been done to prepare for baby's arrival, the nursery is ridiculously organized, the baby showers have been thrown, I've done my pre-baby pampering with friends and got a pedicure last weekend, I've read through tons of baby books, and taken the pre-baby classes...I am ready. Bring him on...I know, I know, I may be eating these words in a few weeks, please don't remind me.
Here are the most recent pictures of the belly at 39 weeks, yup I'm bigger.
Here I am at 36 weeks, just less than 4 weeks to go...as you can see the belly continues to grow. I think we may be getting pretty close to the end. The baby finally flipped head down and it turns out I'm already a little bit dilated. It could be any time now or I could stay a few centimeters dilated for several weeks! Once we get past the 37 week mark, you can bet I'll be going on long long walks and eating spicy food to try to get things moving along. As much as I have enjoyed pregnancy I'm ready to meet this little guys who's been kicking up a storm in my belly. I'm also anxious to find out what Peter and I might name him. No, we haven't settled on a name yet, but we're close. I'm hoping once we see him, we'll be able to make a final decision. This strategy seemed to work for a few of our friends.
In the last few weeks I've been in full on nesting mode trying to get the "nursery" ready. We carved out a little nook for the baby by creating make shift walls with Ikea curtains next to our bedroom area. Here are a few pictures of our little urban loft nursery. It's cute and it works for now.
While we had originally hoped to surround our bedroom with some walls for some soundproofing, cost estimates put it a bit out of reach. Yes, we could have tried building them ourselves, but with no shop, that gets a bit tough.
What better excuse (a) for Andrea to visit IKEA and (b) for Peter to play with the hammer drill on the concrete rafters and install some curtains. At least they provide some basic light blocking. Added bonus: No more rushed cleaning of the entire house when friends visit!
For the last several weeks I have not been able to get a good nights sleep. I'd wake up each morning with a stiff neck and shoulders and a aching lower back, not to mention the leg cramps that wake me in the middle of the night. I've slept with various configurations of first 2, then 3 then 5 pillows at a time with poor Peter way on the other side of our bed. Still after 5 pillows I was still not comfortable. I've gotten a few prenatal massages (Zenana Spa is amazing) and they are a beautiful thing, but I still come home to an uncomfortable nights sleep. I caved in and bought myself the Snoogle Total Body Pillow...ah, finally comfort at night without the mountain of pillows. To all my pregnant friends (and there are so many of you these days), if you don't have one of these already, get one!
